Start the experience of exploring a land of romance, adventure, and
excitement. The itineraries include romantic island resorts, tree house
accommodations in the rain-forest, private bungalows on the beach and
secluded mountain hideaways. Australia offers sunshine and a rich variety of
golden beaches, open spaces and wilderness areas, unique flora and fauna, a
rugged, pioneering way of life in its sparsely settled outback regions,
sophisticated entertainment and shopping facilities in its modern cities,
and the full spectrum of cultural, sporting and recreational activities.
Major centers of tourist interest include the Great Barrier Reef and the
Gold Coast resort area in Queensland Ayers Rock (Uluru) and Alice Springs in
the hot dry center of the continent the winter snow resorts in the
Australian Alps the wide stretches of golden beaches Canberra, the
elaborately planned national capital and the six State capital cities, each
with its individual style.
Aboriginal
People
Australia's Aboriginal people have lived in tune with the rhythm of the
land for more than 60,000 years. This unique relationship with the land is
based on the ancient Aboriginal belief system known as the Dreaming, the
spiritual experience that binds Aboriginal people to the land.
Wildlife
Its long isolation from other lands has made the Australian continent a
sanctuary for rare fauna, and particularly for marsupials such as the
kangaroo, koala, platypus, wombat and the spiny anteater. These mammals that
suckle their young in pouches are found in large numbers, and there are
about 50 species of kangaroos ranging from those which stand as tall as a
man to some as small as a cat. There are about 500 native birds, ranging
from the flightless emu which stands about two meters tall through the
lyrebird to a beautifully-plumed mimic with tail feathers shaped like a
lyre.
